Who chooses permanent makeup?

  • Busy people with little time to apply conventional makeup.
  • People with allergies.
  • Anyone who wants freedom from daily application.
  • Those physically incapable of applying conventional makeup.
  • Athletic people and those with oily skin who tend to shed makeup easily.
  • Burn survivors and people with flaws in their skin.
  • Men and women who seek correction and asymmetry to facial features.
  • Entertainers, models, or actresses.
  • Men and women who want to look their best all the time.

Will permanent makeup hurt?

  • The client may experience some discomfort, the Dermagraphic technician uses topical anesthetics. The probe used for insertion of pigment penetrates the dermis only half as deep as electrolysis.

How long does the procedure take?

  • A procedure usually takes one hour and is designed to be applied in stages. Due to the subtlety of the implants, the patient receives basic shape and color on the first visit - Saturation.
  • The second visit, four weeks later, is where the detail is completed. The second visit is called the Focus visit.

How will I know I will be happy with the outcome and be sure it looks like my own makeup application?

  • The patient works along with the practitioner in a step-by-step method, allowing her to determine is she wants to stop prematurely or deposit more in each procedure.

What is involved in a consultation?

  • A consultation covers the entire procedure through post op, the patient's questions and concerns, and a medical health history.
  • A scratch test is performed and a photographic portfolio is available to view past procedures.

What permanent makeup procedures are there to choose from?

  • There are seven basic procedures to choose from. Eyebrows, eyeliner/ eyelash enhancement, lip liner, full lip color, beauty marks, areola and camouflage.

Can lips, brows, and eyeliner all be done in the same day?

  • Yes

Are the procedures painful?

  • Everyone is different in pain tolerance and sensitivity. Some people experience mild discomfort during the procedure. Topical numbing lotion is applied prior to the procedure and topical numbing gel continuously to the surface site throughout the service.

Can I have permanent makeup done if I have diabetes?

  • Yes, but it is always wise to notify your doctor.

How can permanent makeup improve my eyebrows?

  • Eyebrows are the most important feature of the face and can give the entire look a lift. There are a number of things that can be improved, half of brow, nicer arch, no arch, droopy, uneven, too small, too thin, very, sparse, too short, no brows, starts too far back, outer part needs lifting.

If I don't have any brow hair, will permanent makeup still look good on me?

  • Yes and they can be created and beautifully designed. First they are drawn on so that they flow with the facial features of the client (with help from the client) and the brows are built one implant at a time.

Who determines the colors used?

  • The client and practitioner discuss and decide on pigment during the consultation.

How is the permanent makeup applied?

  • Tiny microns of pigment are inserted into the dermal layer of the skin with a sterile needle.

What is in pigment?

  • Most pigments consist of water, alcohol, glycerin, and iron oxide.

Is permanent makeup really permanent?

  • Permanent makeup never disappears but will lighten with time. For example a soft blonde or platinum eyebrow will lighten faster than a brunette brow. A touch up may be nessisary in 2 to 5 years. When choosing colors your technician should be able to give you an approximate time frame between touch ups.

Will it look natural?

  • There are as many different ways to apply permanent makeup as there are people wearing it. Each individual has his or her perception of natural or dramatic. Permanent makeup should enhance your own beauty. Consultations are a must for the client considering any permanent procedure; ask to see before and after pictures. Established Derma -Technicians will have photographs or portfolios for you to see.

How are colors selected?

  • Custom pigments are blended for each client according to their skin tone, eye color and hair then applied topically for approval.

What about recovery?

  • In most cases there will be slight swelling and redness of the skin. You resume normal activities immediately.

How will adding lip liner or filling in the lips change or enhance my lips?

There are many ways permanent makeup can enhance the lips. Some include:

  • Making the lips look fuller, smaller, enhancing the shape of the bow (middle of the top lip)
  • Making a bow where there hasn't been one
  • Balancing the top and bottom lip
  • Correcting uneven lips

Can I wear different lipstick colors over my permanent lip color?

  • No problem! Any lipstick can be applied over your permanent color for a change. When your lipstick wears off you will still have color to your lips.

How can I benefit from permanent eyeliner/eyelash enhancement?

There are many ways you will benefit through different techniques and applications. Some of the ways it will enhance and accentuate your eyes natural beauty are:

  • Enhancement your eyelashes and make them appear thicker
  • Eliminate washed out look
  • Eliminate the smudged look you get from makeup
  • Enhance the color of your eyes by framing them
  • Save you time and money

Is there any risk in loosing my eyelashes from having permanent eyeliner applied?

  • No, the only way eyelashes are lost permanently is through electrolysis (a technique used to destroy the hair follicle with an electric current).

Will I still be able to have cosmetic surgery (blepharoplasty, eye job) in the future?

  • Lifts and blepharoplasty are not a problem; permanent makeup is common in the plastic surgery world.
